GULAL FESTIVAL

  Gulal is a festival connected to the shigmo festival of Goa. It is celebrated in the month of phalgun at the shri Damodar temple of zambaulim,where this festival takes place. There are no records as to when the festival began. During the portuguese regime, christianity was introduced and sometimes by force. The Hindus and muslims were suppressed by the portuguese who stopped them of practicing their rituals and customs. However, the Hindus managed to continue with them inspite  of the ban. The portuguese destroyed some temples, which included the temple of shri Damodar in Margao. The devotees tried their best to take away the idol of Damodar. It was not possible to take the entire linga, so they carried only the top part. They took it to zambaulim, in sanguem where a new temple was built and the linga installed at garbh kudd (sacred room). Earlier this festival was organised by 10 families. SIRIGAO ZATRA

  The goddess shri Lahirai has her abode in the village of Sirigao one among seven sisters,this goddess manifest herself in the form of  a kalash-urn. Every year,in the month of vaishakh,this place host a traditional zatra, where the people from all over goa,cutting across the caste lines,coverage.  One of the most important and interesting zatras of Goa,is the Sirigao  Zatra, held annually either in the month of April or May, in the mining village of sirigao. This zatra  is in honour of goddess Lahirai,  who is said to be one of the sisters of our lady of Miracles of Mapusa.  Legend has it that the danavas (demons) once attempted to seduce Lahirai (one of the six virginal sisters),but failed.     The ghumot or ghumat is a membranophone instrument from Goa, India. Ghumat is a percussion instrument of earthen vessel having both sides open; on the bigger opening a leather (drum membrane) of monitor lizard is mounted. Generally ghumat is accompanied by 'shamel', another traditional instrument with wooden drum and goat leather mount. This instrument is still very popular amongst by the East Indian people. In August 2019, Goa declared the ghumot as its heritage instrument. Ghumat forms an integral part of Goan folk, religious and temple music, both Hindu and Christian. It serves as an accompaniment to the folk songs and to the mando music. But most importantly it plays a vital role in the music played in Goa during the Ganesh festival. Ingredients To make gobi manchurian •250 grams cauliflower •1/2 cup all purpose flour maida  •1/4 cup cornstarch white corn flour •1/2 to 1 teaspoon red chilli powder •1/4 teaspoon black pepper •1/4 teaspoon salt •1/2 cup water •oil for deep frying as needed For Manchurian sauce •1 1/2 tablespoon oil •1 tablespoons garlic (finely chopped) •1/2  tablespoons ginger (finely chopped) •1 green chili (finely chopped) •1/3 cup onions (finely chopped) •1/4 cup capsicum(finely chopped) •1 tablespoon soya sauce •2 to 3 tablespoon red chilli sauce •1 to 3 tablespoon tomato ketchup •1/2 teaspoon red chili powder •1/2 tablespoon rice vinegar •1 teaspoon sugar •salt as needed •3 to 4 tablespoon water •1/2 to 3/4  teaspoon black pepper •1/8 teaspoon salt •2 tablespoon spring onion green (finely chopped) Preparation for gobi manchurian •Clean 250 grams of gobi and cut the florets to medium size. •Add them to 3 cups of hot water and rest for 5 minutes. •Later drain...
